Das más si das las llaves
Estaba tranquilo en mi casa, casi dormido, después de ver el partido de fútbol en la casa de unos amigos, cuando de pronto suena el teléfono, mi hermana, y me dice que le despicharon el carro, y que no se siente muy bien, que si puedo llegar. No puedo describir el susto, yo me imaginaba a Rebe prensada dentro del carro, y con un montón de gente acercándosele. Inmediatamente agarré mi moto, y me fuí al lugar del accidente.
Al llegar a la escena del choque, lo primero que veo es un carro, desconocido, atravesado en media intersección y con todo el frente desbaratado, y el carro de mi hermana, atravesado en la calle con el frente viendo hacia la acera, y con todo el costado hundido y arrugado.
Por dicha al parquear la moto, pude ver a mi hermana fuera del carro, de pié, y aparentemente bien, lo que me calmó mucho. De una vez le pedí a Rebe que identificara al conductor del otro carro (para no perderlo de vista), y verifiqué que las puertas del carro de ella estuvieran cerradas.
Al llegar los oficiales de tránsito, el tipo empezó a decir que el venía sobre la vía principal y que mi hermana se había saltado el “Alto”, contrario a la descripción del accidente que me dio Rebe. Por dicha, el golpe en los carros habla solo, de ser como el tipo describió el choque, el golpe en el carro de mi hermana estaría del otro lado.
Para evitar problemas, le dije a Rebe que pidiera “alcoholemias”. Aunque el tipo podía tener los ojos rojos por montones de razones, había que ubicarse en el contexto: noche de partido, un clásico (La Liga vs Saprissa), en Costa Rica, la probabilidad de que el alcohol estuviera relacionado era grande. Y así de paso aprovechaba para ver como se hace la alcoholemia, porque nunca he visto como se hace una.
Primero le hicieron la prueba a Rebe y registro 0, lo cual es cierto ya que yo pasé toda la noche con ella y se que no ingirió alcohol. A la hora de aplicarle la prueba al otro tipo, intento varias veces engañar al aparato; en total, se hicieron 6 intentos de hacerle la prueba, y en ningún de ellos el aparato registro nada, ya que el tipo soplaba para otro lado, o no soplaba del todo, o no soplaba lo suficiente; al final de cuentas, los oficiales de tránsito tuvieron que regañarlo, y aunque no quiso soplar bien, por lo menos fue suficiente para la máquina registrara el nivel de alcohol.
En Costa Rica, de menos de 0.5 como nivel de alcohol es permitido. De 0.5 a 0.99 se considera pre-ebriedad, que conlleva una multa de 10000 colones. De 1 en adelante, se considera ebriedad, con una multa de 25000 y la suspensión de la licencia de conducir por un período de 6 meses. El otro tipo registró 1.47.
El título de este post es el nombre de una campaña contra el manejo bajo la influencia del alcohol. La campaña es simple, si has ingerido alcohol, mejor no manejar, darle las llaves a otra persona. De hecho, uno de los anuncios que más me ha llamado la atención fue uno de un tipo que se compra un BMW, y no se lo presta al amigo bajo ninguna circunstancia, hasta que se toma unos traguitos, y solo así le da las llaves a su amigo.
Apuesto a que el tipo que chocó a mi hermana hubiera preferido darle las llaves a alguien más la noche de ayer, dado que ahora tiene que pagar el deducible (lo que INS cobra cuando cubre un incidente) por el arreglo de mi hermana, tiene que pagar su propio arreglo ya que el seguro no se lo va a cubrir por manejar borracho, y quien sabe que más va a pagar, ya que estoy intentando convencer a mi hermana de demandar al tipo por la vía civil, ya que mi hermana necesita el carro para trabajar.
Al final de cuentas, mi hermana está bien, lo único que tiene es un par de golpes y el susto. Pasamos toda la mañana, como hasta las 4am, haciendo el parte oficial del choque, arreglandonos con el perito del INS, y llevando a mi hermana a la clínica a que le hicieran un chequeo general. También me tocó llevar a mi sobrinita al kinder a las 7am. Estoy muerto del sueño, y para colmo, hoy me toca trabajar hasta tarde.

A large percentage of of whatever you say is supprisingly appropriate and it makes me ponder why I had not looked at this with this light previously. Your piece truly did turn the light on for me as far as this particular topic goes. I do enjoy the way you have presented this matter plus it does indeed supply me personally a lot of fodder for consideration.
